File not modifiable

Hi Adrian

I have downloaded the software (twice now) to try it out, but can’t get past the first page. It tells me I have to enter Owner/Agent details before I can do anything else, but when I go to that page, a box comes up saying ‘This action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable’ . I’ve tried looking at the user manual, but that just tells me to enter my details. I tried re-downloading, but that just asked me if I wanted to modify, repair or remove. Please advise.

This is a strange one and not a problem I have encountered before. Firstly, which operating system and version are you using (e.g. windows xp or mac os X)?

Also, do you know where the program is installed (it should be something like c:\programfiles\tenancy manager if windows)

The first thing I would suggest is to uninstall and re-install. If using windows, go to control panel -> add / remove programs -> select tenancy manager and select uninstall. Then re-boot your computer and try re-installing the software. Also, you could try after re-installing, re-booting your machine before running the software (you shouldn't need to, but just to try a few things).

The Windows Operating system is Vista.
I will attempt to de-install and re-install over the next day or two, and report back

I know that this has been tested on VIsta without problem.

Just make sure when you re-install that you are logged in as the administrator (when you login to vista).

I successfully uninstalled the programme, and then re-installed - I still have the same problem. Added to this is the frustration of then having to quit 11 boxes telling you that it could not create all the various fields - back-up, landlords, tenants, property, etc., all the way through to landlords payments. I did as you suggested - re-booting here and there, but no success.
What's next ?

Good news - I am now into the programme. Although I don't have to log in as administrator for any other programme on my system, I do for this one, so no double-click entry. Anyway, I'm in.
Have had a quick look round so far, made a few entries, and have a couple of questions & observations. Do you want me to post them here ?

Just an update to the file not modifiable problem.

I have since learnt that this is a Microsoft issue and not a problem with the software. You can right click the shortcut icon on your desktop and select "run as administrator". This should work without problem from that point onwards.
